Discover how our 3D Facial Anatomy App, developed for Allergan Medical Institute transcends basic illustrations to emulate the real tissue texture of dissected cadavers.
Allergan Medical Institute (AMI) is renowned for delivering top-notch medical education, empowering healthcare professionals (HCPs) to achieve the highest quality treatment outcomes. However, conducting Facial anatomy and Cadaver dissection training posed limitations in space and the availability of cadavers, which restricted the number of training sessions.
This challenge presented an exciting opportunity to embrace cutting-edge technology and digitize the process, transcending the cadaver dissection experience from the lab to an interactive platform. Yet, the primary hurdle was to develop a digital model that went beyond mere illustrations, accurately replicating the real tissue texture of dissected cadavers, and capturing every anatomical detail.
Our team of experts explored photogrammetry to digitally reconstruct a cadaver dissection procedure in a laboratory. This created a photorealistic 3D cadaver model with a high degree of realism. The planning process involved studying the photogrammetry process and applications required to generate 3D models with natural texture and almost no manual image manipulation.
The application was developed using Unity to seamlessly incorporate a detailed 3D model with a high polycount mesh and visually impressive, high-resolution image textures. It caters to both Android and IOS users, ensuring compatibility across various smartphones and tablets.
The app allowed aesthetic specialists to interact with a virtual cadaver using intuitive touch gestures to, explore facial layers, labels, and dissection videos. The app garnered significant attention as Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) offered a sneak peek during the Aesthetic and Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress and several AMI Summits. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic feedback pouring in.
After a resounding successful initial release, over 25 countries are in the process of preparing their customized editions for launch on the AppStore, with a projected timeline for completion by the end of 2023.
